To the Person Who Feels Like Quitting

feel like quitting

Serious question. Do you feel like quitting?

To be honest, sometimes I do. I wish I could say it never crossed my mind but it does. The convenience of quitting creeps in at times and I think, “I’m so tired of this. I don’t have to do this. It’s not too late to turn around.”

Here I mentioned,

Just a few months ago, I was asking, “Is it stupid of me to try and create a full-time income blogging?” Because, according to the numbers, I still have a long way to go (despite busting my tail every day). My breakthrough doesn’t seem to be just around the corner.

When you are trying to achieve your goals, you will, inevitably, face what seems to be just one obstacle after another. Can you relate? Do you feel this way?

No matter what you do, nothing seems to be enough.

And you’re tired, right? Just plain exhausted because every day is a battle. You’re busting your tail trying to make things happen but they’re not happening and you’re growing weary. You don’t want to keep doing this. You feel like quitting.

Things are just hard right now and that’s okay because nothing worth having is supposed to come easy. There will always be resistance when we’re chasing after the things we want most.

Norman Vincent Peale once stated, “It’s always too early to quit.”

Now look at this picture. It is visual proof we often quit a moment too soon.

I know this is just a cartoon but LOOK HOW CLOSE HE WAS. THIS IS REAL LIFE. Some people are THIS CLOSE to “making it” but then they decide quitting is more convenient and, as a result, THEY LOSE. They miss out. Everything they worked for vanishes. Just like that.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want that for myself.

I don’t want to have come SO FAR only to give up right before a huge win.

Things are not meant to be easy!!! What we want most is NOT going to be handed to us…which is GREAT NEWS because there is so much joy to be found in knowing you EARNED it. I’m pretty sure that will be the best feeling ever (!!!!!) but we’ll never get to experience it if we quit now.

That’s easier said than done, of course…because we are only human and there are only 24 hours in a day.

I want you to know I hear you. I get it. These are not the circumstances you were hoping for. You are tired of working relentlessly and not seeing any fruit of your effort or, at least, not the fruit you hoped for.

THE PROCESS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE PRETTY AND FUN. The process is grueling. It’s the RESULTS that make the pain along the journey worth it.

So…whatever you do, don’t give up. You’ve got to do this thing.

I know the journey is long and you feel as if you’re never going to reach your goals…but you FOR SURE won’t reach your goals if you choose quitting over kicking this thing where the sun don’t shine!

feels like quitting

I want you to stop what you’re doing and look at how far you’ve come. Where were you a month ago? A year ago? 2 years ago?

2 years ago I didn’t have a website. I wasn’t a motivational speaker and I definitely wasn’t blogging regularly (LOL). Although these past two years have been the HARDEST DAD GUM YEARS OF MY LIFE (thus far), I know this is my journey. These are my obstacles. I am going to walk my journey boldly and confidently and face these obstacles with determination and ambition.

Look, I don’t know if I’m actually going to be a talk show host. Do I want to be? Did I just admit that out loud in front of a room full of strangers last night? You’re DANG right I do and did. I’m not sure what the results will be…but I’m working towards them. Because if I walk away now simply because I feel like quitting, I have no earthly idea what I’ll be missing out on. So, I’m going to make sure I do my best and play my part.

That’s all any of us can do, really.

In this post I said, “Success is NOT convenient. It’s actually inconvenient. We will never achieve our goals unless we’re willing to go beyond what is convenient. This means doing what needs to be done in the valley, even when we don’t feel like it, even when it’s hard, so we can prolong our mountaintop experience.”

If you feel like quitting, dig your heels in and push through this. See what’s on the other side.

Continue fighting.

Take everything one step at a time and handle each day of the journey as it comes. Face the struggles head-on and give your very best effort. Do that every single day. Handle what is thrown at you with grace and determination.

I believe in you and I’m in your corner rooting for you.

Believe in yourself and believe in what’s not yet seen.

Continue being faithful in the small things and pray like you’ve never prayed before. Hand this journey to God, lay this “thing” in His hands, and then KEEP GOING!!!!

Take a deep breath, dig your heels in, and KEEP MOVING FORWARD!!!!

I so get this! It’s so important to look at those small successes along the way, too. I’ve slowed down to almost quitting a few times, and then catch my breath to start again. Looking back I see I have achieved quite a bit—just seems like not a lot in the amount of time that has passed. BUT, as you say, don’t quit no matter if the fruit looks like it still has a long way to ripen!
