God is Not Limited by Your Location

God is Not Limited by Your Location

This blog post is for those of you who are feeling restless, unsure, or discouraged because of where God currently has you in life. By hearing my personal experience and struggle with this, I hope and pray you will find yourself encouraged and confident by this single Truth: God is NOT limited by your location!

SIDE NOTE: This is an expanded version of the post I shared on social media the other day. You can click the icons in the top right corner if you want to follow me! Several people said they are struggling with this right now so I thought I’d elaborate in case some of you are, too! So, EVEN IF you read Tuesday’s post, make sure you read through this because it’s new and improved! *knucks*

I tried to be hipster and put my shoes in the picture but I think it only works with converses or something. I don’t know.

An oil derrick—the image of my hometown (we’re the Roughnecks).

Every day, I’m thankful to be back here.

In NO WAY was this even remotely close to the “plan” I had in mind two years ago. I was going to graduate college (Gig ‘Em!), save up money, and head to Los Angeles, CA to sweep floors.

I’m kidding. Kinda.

For those of you who don’t already know, I dream of being a talk show host. My prayer is that it be an encouraging show (like The Ellen DeGeneres Show), but one that also, and more importantly, glorifies the Lord. Not just in words, but in actions.

Anyway, God, in His mercy, gently said, “Woah, woah, woah. I’ve got something else in store for you.”

Instead of “hopping off the plane in LAX with a dream and my cardigan” (don’t act like you don’t jam 24/7 to Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus), I moved back home to White Oak, TX.

If you have ever been to East Texas, you know it’s not exactly the ideal location for a Talk Show Host Wannabe.

I’ve mentioned this before but want to share it again. In Love Does, Bob Goff notes:

“I’ve learned that God sometimes allows us to find ourselves in a place where we want something so bad that we can’t see past it…when we want something that bad, it’s easy to mistake what we truly need for the thing we really want…all along, what God really wants for us is something much different, something more tailored to us.”

I learned (the hard way) God wanted something much different for me. He wanted me to pursue motivational speaking and blogging. Random? Sure. HOWEVER, THESE TWO THINGS ARE TAILORED TO ME AND THE PASSIONS AND GIFTS GOD HAS GIVEN ME. I love speaking (I mean, hello…I want to talk for a living!) and I love writing. Not-so-ironically, my friends have ALWAYS laughed at my novel-length text messages and Facebook statuses. ALWAYS.

These two things may not have been on MY radar, but they were on God’s. I can’t imagine doing anything else and I can’t imagine being anywhere else than White Oak, TX!

Here’s the kicker!

My dream of being a talk show host has not diminished.

It has blossomed.

So much so, my dream has deepened and heightened in a way I didn’t realize was possible. It has allowed me to dream even bolder, more specific dreams that will only come into fruition by His hands and not man!

I’m sure I’ll share them with you soon, but not yet.

C.S. Lewis stated,

“God’s presence is not the same as the feeling of God’s presence and He may be doing most for us when we think He is doing least.”

I’m constantly learning that God is not limited by my location. His power and what He is capable of achieving is not based off statistics or facts. No siree!

It’s simply based off a willing and obedient heart.

That’s all He needs.

God is Not Limited

God is not punishing you. That’s not what this is. He is preparing you and equipping you for what lies ahead. Now, by saying that I do not mean He’s going to give you everything you ever wanted (sorry, Charlie). I simply mean He has a plan for you and those plans are good!

You don’t have to stop dreaming.

Don’t give up just because your circumstances look different than you imagined.

The bigger picture is far more important than the small fraction of the image your eyes are locked in on.

God can take ANY CIRCUMSTANCE and work wonders with it.

He’s actually really good at doing that.

I mean…helloooooo! Remember Moses??? The Red Sea? The SNAKE STAFF? THE RAINING MANNA????

Please tell me you laughed at that (#TheWeatherGirls #ItsRainingMen).

If you find yourself feeling discouraged because of where God has you, be still and silent. Listen to His voice. God isn’t toying with you. He is trying to tell you something…trying to help you see the world around you in a new way.

Surrender what you’re holding on to so God can give you something better.

You’re not here by chance or bad luck. You’re here because God has a plan for you and wants to reveal it to you…a plan that you’d only fully be able to see and understand in this very spot.

God is not limited by your location.

He can still work through you. He IS working through you (and FOR you!) in ways you cannot see right now. Trust Him.

I cannot imagine being anywhere else than White Oak, TX. And I sincerely mean that…even with a dream of being a talk show host! Whether I am here for a little while or forever, I am confident this is where I’m supposed to be right now.

I’m realizing more and more that God is capable of absolutely ANYTHING (this goes back to my new and improved dream). Just because you’re not where you want to be…that doesn’t mean God doesn’t have you where you NEED to be and where you’re MEANT to be.

So breathe it all in and relax. Loosen up those muscles and kick your feet up. Be fully present in this very moment and ask God to reveal His will to you (on His terms!!!!!).

Remember, God is not limited by your location. God is NOT limited by your location.

All He needs is a willing and obedient heart…so be patient and let Him work!

Surrender is so important. And trusting that God has the bigger picture 🙂 Thanks for this reminder!
